Reducing costs, CO2 emissions and damp & mould

NexGen’s far infrared ceiling paper helps housing associations and landlords to improve their housing stock, reduce carbon emissions, eliminate damp & mould and lower CAPEX and maintenance costs, all while delivering cost-effective, comfortable warmth for tenants.

Highly efficient energy usage

Humans feel NexGen’s infrared directly – like feeling gentle sunshine on your skin – so we don’t rely on heated air to feel warm. It’s comfortable with a lower air temperature – which means that we don’t use as much energy.

Each room is a ‘zone’ which is controlled by a thermostat and/or smart app. Due to NexGen’s super-fast warmup time, it only takes 1-3 minutes to warm up a zone, so there’s no need for a long (and inefficient) warm-up period. That means you can turn off the heating all day if you’re out of the house, and only heat the bedrooms a few minutes before bedtime. It’s much more efficient, lowering bills and CO2 emissions. Only heat it when you need it!

Low CAPEX requirements and zero scheduled maintenance

NexGen products are inexpensive to purchase and quick and easy to install. There’s no need to retrofit plumbing, find external space for heating units; even insulation is less critical in a NexGen installation.

There are no moving parts in a NexGen system, so there’s no need for regular maintenance. We offer a 15 year warranty as standard.

A low (or zero) carbon solution

NexGen is a low-carbon solution for heating homes, and particularly when combined with solar panels and batteries, can produce a truly zero carbon solution. We partner with major national distributors and installers of solar panels and smart batteries for integrated solutions. We also work with finance partners to fund large-scale roll-outs of these systems.

Effective even in hard-to-heat homes

Traditional heating systems warm rooms by heating air. They struggle in draughty homes because with multiple air changes per hour, warm air escapes quickly; the homes are therefore hard to heat. In contrast, NexGen’s far infrared heats people and objects directly and does not rely on air to transmit warmth. NexGen also stores energy (‘thermal mass’) in the fabric of the room, so the room cools down more slowly – this helps to make NexGen less sensitive to poor insulation. NexGen is a great alternative for hard-to-heat homes!

Insulation is always welcome (even for NexGen homes), but it can also be very expensive and disruptive to install. NexGen’s ceiling paper itself comes with different insulated backings, to maximise energy efficiency in these hard-to-heat homes.

Elimination of damp and mould - quickly and permanently

Far Infrared penetrates directly into walls, evaporating embedded moisture and mobilising it into the air. The moisture can then be easily removed via ventilation systems or dehumidification. A home can be dried out in a week, compared to multiple months for traditional methods of heating and circulating hot air. To avoid disruption to tenants and the extra costs of rehousing them in hotels or other accommodation, damp can even be removed on a room-by-room basis in occupied homes.

On an ongoing basis, NexGen humidity sensors identify conditions for damp and mould formation and automatically activate NexGen for a short heating cycle, preventing damp from returning.

Quick and Easy install

Applied and bonded to the ceiling, NexGen is quick to install (typically in three days) and only requires basic electrical and decorative skills to install. It only takes days to train contractors on our accredited training program, on-site or at our training facility.

Tough solution for robust environments

NexGen ceiling paper is firmly and permanently fixed to the ceiling, so it’s out of the way and can’t easily be damaged by enthusiastic tenant DIY. It’s largely unaffected even if someone knocks a nail or cuts a hole in the middle of the paper. Our electrical installations involve creating simple spurs for each low voltage transformer (which is fixed to the wall), so tenants can’t unplug and remove equipment.

NexGen solutions are equally suited for new build homes or retrofit of existing homes. They are suitable for all rooms (including bathrooms and kitchens) and can be tailored to any size or shape of room, even if the ceilings are of variable height or covered in artex.

Uniform heat

Using NexGen’s paper across the full surface area of a ceiling means that there’s enough power to keep people warm on the coldest nights. It also leads to an even distribution of warmth across the room – so no cold spots. It eliminates the need for radiators, turning wall and floor areas into usable and valuable living space.

Users tell us that the warmth is gentle, comfortable and easy to control.

Safer and healthier

Traditional convection systems circulate irritant particles that worsen allergies and exacerbate respiratory conditions such as asthma. NexGen heats people and objects directly, leaving dust particles undisturbed.

Infrared systems are generally believed to offer multiple health benefits, including pain relief, improved circulation and muscle recovery.

NexGen runs on ultra-low voltage electricity so it’s ultra-safe. It operates at low surface temperatures, so you can’t burn yourself by touching NexGen.

We improve the quality of hard-to-heat properties, so that you can bring voids back into your housing stock and provide better homes for residents.
